In an all-Championship affair from Ewood Park on Wednesday night, a high-flying Cardiff will travel to Blackburn with an EFL Cup quarter-final spot up for grabs.

Starting with the hosts, suffering play-off heartbreak last season as they eventually missed out on the chance to claim a top-six ticket, Blackburn opened up the new campaign with their sights set on mounting another genuine charge. However, while the Rovers might have marked their return from September’s international break with a 2-1 win at home against Middlesbrough, it appears that might have just been a minor boost for Jon Dahl Tomasson’s squad. Last seen over the weekend putting in another worrying display as they slumped to an action-packed 4-3 defeat at the hands of Ipswich, the Lancashire-based outfit have now lost three of their previous four Championship appearances. Heading into the fortnight interval with a shock 3-0 drumming against Plymouth, fans around Ewood Park will have a real headache over their side’s recent issues at the back. Along with shipping seven goals in their back-to-back Championship defeats, Blackburn have also recorded just a single clean sheet from their opening eight second-tier contests.

As for the visitors, while Cardiff might have spent large spells of last season looking over their shoulder at a looming relegation scrap, the Bluebirds have come flying out of the traps this time around. Putting in another eye-catching performance over the weekend as they claimed a 1-0 victory away at Sunderland, Erol Bulut’s men have continued to gain a string of plaudits from across the Championship. In fact, including a lively 3-2 win at home against Coventry last week, Wednesday’s guests have now won five of their previous six appearances against second-tier opposition. Extending on their EFL Cup adventure on August 29th as they stormed their way to a stellar 3-1 win away at Birmingham, Cardiff have certainly found a real clinical edge in the final third. Bagging at least a pair of goals in each of their previous five appearances, we could be treated to an enjoyable affair here. It should be noted, with Cardiff seeing four of their last five away fixtures finish with both teams finding the net, we are expecting a similar outcome here.

Bet: Both teams to score at Blackburn vs Cardiff 2/3 for Wednesday’s EFL Cup tie @ Pribet
