Two camps who are sat firmly in the driving seat to punch a play-off ticket this season, Cobh Ramblers will welcome Treaty United to St. Colman’s Park on Friday night.
Starting with the hosts, making an immediate return to winning ways last week as they stormed their way to a dramatic 3-2 victory away at Athlone, Cobh have firmly cemented their spot as one of Ireland’s ultimate surprise packages this season. Despite spending the whole of last season scrapping it out at the foot of the First Division table, Mick McDermott’s men have come roaring back in a remarkable fashion. Getting Friday’s return to County Cork underway sat in silver medal position, the mood around St. Colman’s Park should be at a red-hot high. In fact, signing off April with a 3-1 win against the Finn Harps, Cobh have won six of their previous seven appearances. Now regarded as a leading play-off contender, Friday’s hosts will be looking to make another statement here. It should also be highlighted, McDermott’s side have seen four of their last five First Division matchups finish with both teams finding the net.
As for the visitors, putting in a dominant display last week as they stormed their way to a 5-1 romp at home against Longford, Treaty find themselves in an almost identical position to Friday’s opponents. Skyrocketing their way up the First Division table, Tommy Barrett’s side have registered 12 points from their previous five appearances and now hold a five-point buffer from dropping out of the play-off places. With their stellar purple patch highlighted by a 4-0 victory against UC Dublin on May 16th, the Limerick-based outfit have also notched nine goals in their consecutive First Division showdowns. However, last seen on their travels getting hit with a 1-0 loss against Kerry, Friday’s guests have shown some real issues away from Markets Field. Including a 2-0 defeat against Wexford on April 21st, Treaty have lost four of their last five matchups on the road and have also landed just a single victory on their travels since February 21st.
