Bitesize Prediction: Newcastle vs Crystal Palace – 21/10/23

Competition: Premier League

Market: Newcastle win

Odds: 1/2 @ BetUS

Looking to mark their return from October’s international break with a statement at St. James’ Park, Newcastle will welcome Crystal Palace to the north east.

Starting with the hosts, while Newcastle might have been disappointed after entering October’s international break with a 2-2 stalemate away at West Ham, the Magpies have once again continued to gain a string of plaudits. Putting in a famous performance against French giants PSG earlier in the month as they claimed a remarkable 4-1 romp at St. James’ Park, Eddie Howe’s side now have their sights firmly set on punching a Champions League knockout stage ticket. Unbeaten in each of their previous seven appearances across all formats – a run that stems back to September 2nd – the former Bournemouth boss will be most excited by his side’s free-scoring performances in the final third. Along with landing a remarkable 8-0 romp away at Premier League returners Sheffield United last month, Newcastle have bagged a stunning 17 strikes in just their last five outings. Excited to make a return to St. James’ this weekend, Howe’s high-flying squad should be smelling a real opportunity on home soil.

As for the visitors, although Crystal Palace might have caused a major upset at Old Trafford back on September 30th as they landed a 1-0 victory against Manchester United, Roy Hodgson’s side have struggled to find much stability since opening up the 2023/24 campaign. Mustering just a single victory from any of their previous five appearances against Premier League opposition across all formats, the one-time England boss will be more than aware that his side faces a real challenge on Saturday afternoon. Crashing out of the EFL Cup in their most recent trip to St. James’ Park last season, the Eagles have also managed to claim just a sole win from any of their previous eight contests against the Champions League dreamers – a run that stems back to February 2020. Although Saturday’s opponents might open this weekend’s fixtures with just a single point separating them in the Premier League standings, we are backing a home victory here.
