Competition: National League
Market: Both teams to score
Odds: 8/11 @ BetUS
Looking to widen their buffer at the top of the National League table on Wednesday night, Rochdale will travel to Glanford Park when they meet Scunthorpe.
Starting with the hosts, while Scunthorpe might have only made their National League return this season, Andy Butler’s men have embarked on a real fifth-tier flurry. Last seen over the weekend securing an action-packed 3-2 victory away at Braintree, the Iron are sat firmly in the driving seat to punch a play-off ticket in 2026. Including consecutive 2-1 wins against Altrincham and Truro earlier in the month, the former Doncaster coach has seen his squad win each of their previous three appearances by an aggregate score of 7-4. Likewise, despite falling to a 2-1 defeat against Sutton on March 10th, Scunthorpe have registered 12 points from their last five National League outings. Looking to claim a heavyweight scalp in midweek, Butler’s side should also be excited by their free-scoring performances in the final third. Including a rollercoaster 3-3 stalemate against Solihull Moors on February 28th, the Iron have notched at least a pair of goals in five of their previous six showdowns.
As for the visitors, leading the chase at the top of the National League standings, it is no secret that Rochdale are pencilled in as the standout title contender in 2026. Making an immediate return to winning ways over the weekend as they secured a frantic 3-2 victory at home against Tamworth, Jimmy McNulty’s side have won five of their previous six National League appearances. Getting March underway with another 3-2 win against relegation scrappers Brackley Town, the Blues have remarkably suffered just a single defeat from any of their 17 consecutive National League matchups since opening the New Year. However, despite their own clinical performances in the final third, Rochdale are searching for some recent defensive steel. Shipping four goals in their back-to-back outings, Wednesday’s guests have recorded just a pair of clean sheets from their last seven outings. In a contest that tends to produce plenty of fireworks, we are expecting what could be another enjoyable National League battle in midweek.
