Blackburn sign Modeste on loan

French side Bordeaux have confirmed their striker Anthony Modeste will move to Blackburn Rovers on loan for the rest of the season.

It has been a quiet transfer window for Blackburn so far, with the club’s main aim being to fend off bids for captain Christopher Samba, but manager Steve Kean is also eager to add to a threadbare squad in the midst of a dogged relegation battle.

Currently in 17th place in the league, hovering just above QPR on goal difference, Kean will hope Modeste can help his side add to their 32 league goals so far this season.

The Frenchman, a former France under-21 international, will encounter stiff competition for a starting spot up front at Ewood Park though, with the likes of Yakubu, Ruben Rochina, David Goodwillie and Jason Roberts already in the squad.

Modeste, 23, arrives in England with over 40 league goals to his name after previous spells in France for the likes of Nice, Angers and his parent club Bordeaux.
