Blackburn Rovers’ Championship fixture against Ipswich Town will be replayed in full after it was abandoned last Saturday.

Blackburn were leading 1-0 through Todd Cantwell’s second-half penalty, while Ipswich had had Jacob Greaves sent off before the game was stopped in the 79th minute due to heavy rain.

The defender will still serve a suspension, but Cantwell’s goal will no longer stand, with a new date for the fixture set to be confirmed in due course.

An EFL statement confirmed that a “majority” decided the game should be replayed in full following a board meeting, after all options were considered in accordance with the regulations.

“The decision follows recent precedents relating to abandoned fixtures and is intended to uphold the integrity of the league competition, which should, wherever possible, be based on a complete set of fixtures played to a conclusion on the day,” the statement said.

“The board recognised that this was an incredibly difficult decision and agreed to consult clubs on the best approach to the development of new guidance to be considered in the event of a match abandonment.”
