Borussia Moenchengladbach missed the chance to move into second in the Bundesliga on Sunday, as they slumped to a 1-0 defeat at Nuremberg.

Lucien Favre’s side could have leapfrogged Bayern Munich and trimmed the margin between themselves and leaders Borussia Dortmund to five points, but Albert Bunjaku’s 87th-minute winner was enough to seal all three points for Nuremberg at easyCredit-Stadion.

The win lifted Nuremberg into ninth place in the league table, and they are just five points behind sixth-placed Werder Bremen, who occupy a Europa League place.

Elsewhere on Sunday, Hoffenheim were held to a 1-1 draw at home by struggling Cologne.

Marvin Compper gave the hosts the lead just after the half-hour mark, but a late strike from reported Arsenal target Lukas Podolski – his 16th league goal of the season – salvaged a point for Cologne, who are just three points clear of the relegation play-off place.
