Paulo Duarte has been fired as Burkina Faso coach following a decision from the country’s football federation.
The Stallions lost all three of their Africa Cup of Nations matches at the tournament, ending their disappointing campaign at the bottom of Group B.
Defeats to Ivory Coast, Angola and Sudan spelled the end for the Portuguese coach.
Burkinabe Football Federation chairman Zambede Theodore Sawadogo revealed the news on Friday via a national radio station, saying that Duarte had ‘failed to impose himself as leader of the group’ during the tournament.
Sawadogo added that assistant trainer Mocktar Baro will coach the team in their February 29 friendly match against Morocco.
The 42-year-old coach, known as the ‘Mourinho of Africa’, had been in charge of Burkina Faso since 2008.
