´Burning´ Frank admits better team won as Tottenham thrashed by Forest

Thomas Frank admitted his Tottenham side were not good enough throughout after they fell to a demoralising 3-0 defeat at the hands of Nottingham Forest.

Spurs went behind through a defensive error as an ill-judged pass from Guglielmo Vicario led to Archie Gray being dispossessed on the edge of his own area by Ibrahim Sangare, who then set up Callum Hudson-Odoi for a tap-in.

The former Chelsea winger would score his second after the break as Vicario misjudged the flight of his cross from the left, while Sangare capped off a dominant performance with a fantastic strike from distance.

It was a poor performance from Spurs, who could only muster a single effort on target during the 90 minutes, and Frank offered no excuses.

“It was hugely disappointing,” he told Sky Sports. “It’s burning, annoying. That was a bad performance.

“The better team won today. Especially in the first half, overall we looked disjointed.

“We didn’t win enough duels. And then we couldn’t hit each other. It seemed like we gave the ball away every time we won it back.”

Spurs were damaged by more defensive mistakes and they have now recorded the second-most errors leading to opposition goals in the Premier League this season, but Frank refused to single out individuals.

He said: “Of course, the first two goals are two mistakes, that happens.

“We need to work to be more consistent. It’s two steps forward and a step back today.

“We are in it together, we win together and lose together. It’s hugely irritating that we perform like this today.”

Spurs have just 22 points from their first 16 games of this campaign, which is their fewest at the same stage of any season since 2008-09, and there were boos from the away fans after the final whistle.

On the fans’ negative reactions, he said: “Like I’ve said before, if you don’t perform, that’s more than fair enough… their frustration.”

Nottingham Forest boss Sean Dyche spoke of his delight at his side’s all-round performance as they beat Spurs for the third time in a row to move five points clear of the relegation zone.

“I thought the lads were outstanding from start to finish,” he told Sky Sports.

“Our shape was good, the pressing was good. The players are looking fitter, sharper and also the quality… I know we have quality here, it was on show today.

“It’s often about building the basics. The players are doing it brilliantly, all of them. We’re building that squad mentality.”
