Jack Butland looks set to miss out on a place in England’s Euro 2016 squad after it was confirmed he sustained a fractured ankle in Saturday’s friendly against Germany.
The Stoke City goalkeeper was taken off on a stretcher shortly before half-time of England’s 3-2 win in Berlin, after appearing to hurt himself while making a save.
Butland, who was standing in for injured first-choice keeper Joe Hart, was visibly hampered by the injury in conceding Toni Kroos’ opening goal.
Scans have now confirmed a fracture that appears certain to rule him out of the rest of the Premier League season, while also throwing his participation at the European Championship into major doubt.
Today’s scan revealed I’ve fractured my ankle, absolutely devasted! I’ll be doing everything I can to get back fit as soon as I can!
