Corinthians moved level with leaders Palmeiras in the Campeonato Paulista with a 1-0 win at Sao Caetano, while Santos won 3-1 at Mirassol.

A 63rd-minute goal from Willian earned Corinthians a hard-fought win over Sao Caetano in Sao Paulo on Saturday.

The diminutive striker struck Douglas dos Santos’ sharp pass first time, giving Sao Caetano’s goalkeeper Luiz Silva no chance.

The win means Corinthians are equal with Palmeiras at the top of the Campeonato Paulista on 20 points with six wins from eight games.

Santos took the lead away from home when left-back Juan struck a bullet of a shot past Fernando Leal in Mirassol’s goal after 12 minutes.

A 46th-minute penalty from Borges doubled the visitors’ lead, before Preto gave Mirassol some hope just four minutes later when his shot found the top corner of the goal.

But that hope was extinguished when Elano’s free-kick was headed into the net by Edu Dracena in the 62nd minute.

In other results on Saturday, Linense survived a late surge by Bragantino to win 2-1 and Ituano drew 1-1 with Catanduvense.
