Campeonato Paulista wrap: Unbeaten Palmeiras move top

Palmeiras continued their unbeaten start to the Campeonato Paulista and reclaimed top spot after a 3-2 win over Guaratingueta on Friday.

Luiz Felipe Scolari’s men fell behind early but ran out winners against the struggling Guaratingueta, who finished the encounter at home with nine men.

Midfielder Pio gave the hosts a 10th-minute lead, before the visitors responded and were ahead at the break.

Artur levelled in the 18th minute and Argentine Hernan Barcos struck from the penalty spot in first-half stoppage time.

The spot-kick was awarded after Guaratingueta substitute Daniel fouled the lively Maikon Leite and was sent off barely three minutes after coming on.

Guaratingueta were reduced to nine men with just under a quarter of an hour to play when Baggio saw red, before Joao Vitor gave the visitors a two-goal advantage.

Pio netted a late consolation as Guaratingueta remained second from bottom with just three points, while Palmeiras moved a point ahead of Guarani.

In other matches, Botafogo slumped to their sixth consecutive defeat after Felipe’s 28th-minute goal saw Mogi Mirim to a 1-0 win.

Renato Caja and Guilherme netted for Ponte Preta but they were held to a 2-2 draw at home to Oeste, who had Tadeu and Mazinho on the scoresheet.

Elsewhere, Danilo’s 58th-minute effort helped Portuguesa to a 1-0 victory over struggling XV de Piracicaba.
