Caparros rues lack of luck

Mallorca coach Joaquin Caparros believes his men were unfortunate not to get a positive result in Saturday’s 2-1 home defeat to Real Madrid.

Mallorca held the lead in the La Liga encounter for more than half an hour following Tomer Hemed’s header before the break, but Real managed to turn the score around with goals from Gonzalo Higuain and Jose Callejon in the last 20 minutes of the game.

Caparros was happy with his side’s display against the La Liga leaders, but suggested Mallorca could have picked up a better result.

“We had merit, but you already know that my theory is that these merits should be followed by results and, against Madrid, we lacked a bit of luck,” he said.

“We stood up to Madrid, who went for the victory in the second half, and it was very hard to keep this pressure during the entire match.”

Caparros was critical of referee Perez Montero after Victor Casadesus was flagged offside in his own half, when he was about to face Real goalkeeper Iker Casillas one-on-one.

“That play was tremendous,” Caparros said. “We watched the replay and he was onside. It is incredible that you do not ask me about it.”

“I do not even want to imagine if it had happened to Madrid.”

The result leaves Mallorca in 15th on the La Liga table, three points clear of the relegation zone.
