Chamakh happy at Arsenal

Arsenal striker Marouane Chamakh says he has no interest in a move away from the Emirates during the January transfer window.

The French-born striker arrived at the club during in May 2010 from Bordeaux and settled well initially, scoring seven league goals by the end of November.

But the 28-year-old failed to find the net for the remainder of the 2010/11 season, and he has only scored once in the current campaign.

Chamakh’s opportunities have been limited this season due to the form of Premier League top scorer Robin van Persie, but the Moroccan international remains determined to prove himself with the Gunners despite interest from other clubs.

“I am relaxed about my future,” Chamakh told the Daily Mirror. “I’ve spoken with the coach (Arsene Wenger) and I’m staying with Arsenal after the Africa Cup of Nations.”

“My agents have had calls from other clubs, but I want to show what I can do in the next few months.”

“I’m tired of the rumours, because I only want to be focused on my work for Morocco.”

“Personally, I have a lot more in my game and I want to demonstrate my level.”

Arsenal’s lack of firepower and reliance on van Persie prompted Wenger to secure a short-term loan deal for Thierry Henry, but Chamakh remains unfazed at the challenge of winning a regular place in the team upon his return to north London.

“I think Wenger has confidence in me,” Chamakh said. “It was that reason that I left Bordeaux to join Arsenal.”

“I had some good performances in my first season and it’s possible that I can repeat those.”

“Of course I want to play more, but it’s very difficult for a forward at Arsenal. The level is very high, but that’s the challenge that I was looking for.”
