Championship wrap: Bolton comeback stuns Bristol, Palace held

Bolton responded to the sacking of manager Owen Coyle with a 3-2 win against Bristol City in the Championship on Saturday.

Led by caretaker manager Jimmy Phillips after Coyle was sacked earlier this month, Bolton arrested a dreadful start after Steven Davis volleyed City ahead and doubled their lead from the penalty spot within 21 minutes.

Chris Eagles lifted a deflated home crowd with a timely free-kick, Jay Spearing levelled the scores in the 62nd minute and Martin Petrov completed the comeback with a curled winner eight minutes from time.

Crystal Palace were denied a fifth straight win as Millwall came from two goals down to snatch a 2-2 draw in a pulsating south London derby.

Palace strolled to a 2-0 lead through Mile Jedinak’s 30-yard pile-driver and Damien Delaney’s 39th-minute header but Millwall were given a lifeline and a penalty when Dean Moxey was dismissed for handling the ball.

Liam Trotter converted from the spot and Millwall finally made their advantage pay when Mark Beevers bundled home in the 77th minute.

Cardiff missed the chance to go top of the league with a 3-1 defeat at Nottingham Forest, who led 3-0 through strikes from Andy Reid, Daniel Ayala and on-loan striker Billy Sharp.

Leaders Leicester climbed above Cardiff on goal difference as a result with substitute Ben Marshall’s 86th-minute strike clattering in off the post to break Birmingham hearts in a 1-1 draw.

Huddersfield saw off promotion rivals Wolverhampton to move up to third spot with a 2-1 win.

Hull City had a double from Nick Proschwitz and handed lowly Ipswich a 2-1 defeat after trailing for more than half the game.

Middlesbrough edged playoff rivals Brighton 1-0 with Barnsley handing promoted Charlton defeat by the same score line.

Derby and Blackburn shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw, denying caretaker Rovers boss Eric Black his first win and Watford beat bottom Peterborough 1-0 courtesy of Matej Vydra’s stoppage-time penalty.

In the late game, Charlie Austin scored the only goal of the game for Burnley in a 1-0 win over Blackpool.
