According to ESPN, Chelsea are moving closer to an agreement with Borussia Dortmund for winger Jamie Gittens following talks between club representatives in the United States during the Club World Cup.
Earlier this month, Chelsea had two offers for the 20-year-old turned down during the short transfer window aimed at allowing teams to strengthen their squads ahead of the expanded 32-team tournament.
Dortmund are apparently still demanding a fee of around €60million for Gittens, but further discussions have taken place, with Chelsea making the acquisition of a left-sided winger with a strong right foot a top priority.
Gittens netted 12 goals in 48 appearances across all competitions last season, including four in the Champions League.
Having started out at the Reading academy, Gittens actually had a six-month trial at Chelsea at the age of eight, but he quickly returned to Reading and remained there for six more years. Then he went on to Manchester City and joined Dortmund’s Under-19 side in 2020.
