Chelsea join Darwin Nunez race

Newcastle and Tottenham Hotspur have both been heavily linked with former Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez, but according to Newcastle-based Chronicle Live, Chelsea are set to enter the race for his signature as well.

Nunez, currently plying his trade at Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal, has nine goals and five assists in 24 matches across all competitions since his €53million move from Liverpool. However, at this stage of the season, he is registered only to play in the AFC Champions League at this stage of the season, which means he cannot play in domestic competitions.

The 26-year-old Uruguay international is obviously unhappy with that situation, and he is believed to be looking to leave the club. Quite apart from that, given his reputation for wasting clear-cut chances during his time at Liverpool, he clearly has unfinished business in the Premier League.

Nunez has 36 caps and 13 goals for his country, and needs to be playing regularly to be in the squad for the upcoming World Cup.
