Union Espanola have overhauled O’Higgins at the top of the Chile Primera Division with a 2-0 win on the road to Santiago Wanderers.

Both Union Espanola and Universidad Catolica moved above O’Higgins on Chile’s Primera Division ladder after the former leaders had to come from behind to draw 1-1 with Cobreloa.

In Quillota, Union Espanola overcame the Wanderers thanks to two second-half goals, while Catolica defeated Everton 2-0 after an impressive first half.

Patricio Rubio gave Espanola the lead against the Wanderers with 14 minutes remaining on Saturday and veteran forward Gustavo Canales wrapped up the three points for the visitors when he scored in the 88th minute.

Meanwhile at Catolica’s Estadio San Carlos de Apoquindo, Hans Martinez and Ismael Sosa struck in the first half for the hosts as they handed Everton their sixth defeat in eight matches.

Espanola and Catolica both moved to 29 points with the former ahead on goal difference, while O’Higgins (28 points) slipped to third after they were held by Cobreloa on Friday.

Pablo Gonzalez put Cobreloa in front on the hour mark and O’Higgins only salvaged a point when Gonzalo Barriga scored with eight minutes left.

Universidad de Chile claimed fourth spot on the table above Cobreloa with a 3-2 victory over Colo Colo on Sunday.
