Real Garcilaso have moved into the Copa Libertadores quarter-finals after a penalty shootout win over Nacional on Thursday.

Peruvian side Real Garcilaso went into the second leg of the round-of-16 tie with a 1-0 lead but relinquished it early in the second half when Gonzalo Bueno struck for the home side.

However, the Uruguayan hosts were unable to find a second goal in Montevideo as the tie finished 1-1 and went into a shootout, which the visitors won 4-1.

A Rolando Bogado goal was the difference between the teams in the first leg but Nacional got their leveller in the 56th minute at Estadio Gran Parque Central.

Diego Arismendi headed a Vicente Sanchez set-piece toward goal and Bueno nodded in unmarked at the back post to level the aggregate scores.

Alvaro Recoba and Arismendi missed spot-kicks in the shootout and when Oscar Gamarra netted with Real’s fourth penalty, a place in the last eight was sealed.

Real Garcilaso will face the winner of the tie between Colombia’s Sante Fe and Gremio, which the Brazilian side leads 2-1 after the first leg.
