With under six months left on his current deal at Old Trafford, Manchester United confirmed on Thursday that Brazilian ace Casemiro will be leaving the club at the end of the 2025/26 campaign.
Although the former Real Madrid superstar might have been a key figure in the heart of United’s midfield this season, Casemiro will be ending his four-year spell in the red half of Manchester.
Joining from Los Blancos in what was a blockbuster deal back in 2022 for a reported fee in the region of £70million, the 33-year-old also scored the opening goal as United were crowned Carabao Cup champions at Wembley a year after joining.
With it now confirmed that the five-time Champions League winner will be leaving Old Trafford at the end of the season, the Red Devils will also be getting Casemiro’s £350,000-per-week salary off their books.
Already putting together their preparations for a midfield overhaul this summer, United are reportedly eying a pair of England internationals.
Elliot Anderson – Nottingham Forest
While Nottingham Forest might be at the heart of a Premier League relegation scrap this season, Sean Dyche’s midfield talisman finds his stock at a red-hot high.
Although Elliot Anderson might have been shown a late Europa League red card during Forest’s 1-0 loss away at Braga on Thursday night, the 23-year-old has been one of the Premier League’s standout midfield starlets this year.
While many might have been left shocked back in the summer of 2024 as Anderson left boyhood club Newcastle for a reported fee in the region of £35million, the England international has relished life at the City Ground.
Playing a leading role as Nottingham Forest booked their iconic European adventure last season, Forest’s midfield ace has also become a regular feature in Thomas Tuchel’s squad.
Expected to be part of the Three Lions’ squad that travels to the World Cup over in North America this summer, Anderson has also been heavily linked with a string of Premier League giants over recent months.
Although there might be some reports that the Forest hierarchy value the six-cap international north of £100million, it has been suggested that Anderson is regarded to be Casemiro’s dream replacement this summer.

Adam Wharton – Crystal Palace
While Adam Wharton might have only arrived at Crystal Palace following a Deadline Day move back in January 2024, the former Blackburn youngster has hit the ground running since joining England’s elite.
Enjoying what has been a sensational rise to superstardom, the 21-year-old is widely regarded as one of Europe’s hottest budding midfield starlets.
Becoming a key figure in south London, Wharton was part of Tuchel’s EURO 24 squad and is also regarded as a standout contender to partner Declan Rice in the middle of the park at this summer’s World Cup finals.
Reportedly attracting serious interest from the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City over the past 12 months, it has also been suggested that Spanish icons Real Madrid have also been keeping tabs on the three-cap international.
With the prospect of their midfield linchpin leaving Selhurst Park this summer, it has certainly been a nightmare week for the Eagles.
Watching skipper Marc Guehi complete a permanent switch to Man City on Monday and with Oliver Glasner announcing that he will be leaving south London at the end of the 2025/26 campaign, news was also broken earlier in the week that leading goalscorer Jean-Philippe Mateta wants to leave the club before the end of the January transfer window.
