Southampton manager Nigel Adkins says goalkeeper Kelvin Davis should have dealt with the conditions better during his side’s draw with Fulham.
The 36-year-old fumbled a cross from Sascha Riether into the path of Dimitar Berbatov, who fired Fulham ahead after just eight minutes of the Boxing Day clash.
And, though Rickie Lambert’s late penalty salvaged a point for the visitors, Adkins pulled no punches in his assessment of Davis’ performance.
He told reporters: “Some of Kelvin’s distribution was outstanding yet again.
“Kelvin has had a very quiet afternoon when you look at it. He has not really had that many things to go and do.
“The conditions are what they are. We are all accustomed to playing in the wind, rain, snow, bumpy pitches, hard pitches, dry pitches.
“You’ve just got to deal with it. You can’t complain about it.”
Southampton have conceded 34 goals in 18 English Premier League games this campaign, with Davis, Artur Boruc and Paulo Gazzaniga competing for the number one jersey.
