Del Piero set for shock move to Sion

Veteran forward Alessandro Del Piero is on the verge of joining Swiss side Sion, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.

The former Italy international has been out of contract since leaving Juventus at the end of last season, and was heavily linked with a move to the MLS.

However, La Gazzetta dello Sport understands that Del Piero is likely to continue his playing career at Sion.

The president of the Swiss club Christian Constantini has flown to Turin earlier today, where he is expected to negotiate the deal with Del Piero’s brother and agent Stefano.

Having spent the entire summer searching for a new club, the forward is eager to return into action and is, therefore, expected to seriously consider a switch to Switzerland, especially as Gennaro Gattuso joined the club earlier this summer.

Few months ago, Del Piero decided to leave Juventus after 19 seasons and more than 500 Serie A appearances for the Bianconeri.
