France coach Didier Deschamps has three players in his thinking for every position ahead of the World Cup, but he knows he must start cutting down that list soon.
Les Bleus take on Colombia in a friendly in Landover, Maryland on Sunday, having defeated Brazil 2-1 in Foxborough on Thursday.
Kylian Mbappe and Hugo Ekitike were on target in France’s win over the Selecao, which came despite Dayot Upamecano being sent off for a last man foul early in the second half.
Deschamps is likely to shuffle his pack against Colombia, with Eduardo Camavinga, N’Golo Kante, Rayan Cherki and Desire Doue among the big names that did not start versus Brazil.
France are also without the likes of Bradley Barcola, William Saliba and Jules Kounde due to injury, and Deschamps is under no illusions regarding the difficulty of his task.
Asked how his squad planning was coming along, Deschamps told reporters: “I don’t have a fixed idea because I don’t have all the data.
“Barcola, Saliba and Kounde are used to being here. From the moment I consider that I have three options for all positions, and I can’t take everyone.
“When you have attacking potential, you have ambition. Because of what we have done, we should be among the teams that can get to the top, but there is an extra step we must take.”
