Dyche laughs off Spurs rumours amid Tudor speculation

Sean Dyche has laughed off rumours linking him to the Tottenham head coach role amid uncertainty around Igor Tudor’s future in the position.

Dyche was sacked by Nottingham Forest in early February following a goalless draw with bottom side Wolves, leaving the Tricky Trees in a relegation battle.

However, since Vitor Pereira’s appointment, draws against Manchester City and Fulham, along with a 3-0 win over Spurs last time out, has seen Forest climb up to 16th in the table.

Spurs, meanwhile, are just one point above the bottom three, having lost four of their five league games under Tudor (D1).

Tottenham have not won any of their last 13 league matches (D5 L8), equalling their second-longest winless run in league competition in their history.

Tudor’s future was thrown into further question following the death of his father, Mario, last weekend, with Dyche named as one of the favourites to take over for the remainder of the season.

When asked by talkSPORT about the Spurs rumours, Dyche laughed: “Ah, it’s brilliant, honestly.

“I was in the pub and this guy goes, ‘Ah, you’re meant to be in talks with Spurs tonight?’ And I say, ‘I’m sat next to you having a pint of Guinness, so it’s unlikely, unless you work for Spurs!’

“To give you an inside view, when you’re the manager, you know you’re going to get asked these at some point and whatever part of your career if you’re doing all right.

“You get asked and you try to be respectful because let’s use Tottenham as an example. A brilliant club, massive club and all the rest of it and one of my first ever memories is Ricky Villa’s goal and so you say yeah, flattered.

“And [social media] say, ‘He hasn’t said no,’ and then you go, ‘no,’ and they say, ‘he wants it really’, so you say, ‘yes,’ and they say, ‘I knew he wanted it,’ so what can you say?”

Spurs are not in action again until April 12, when they face Sunderland at the Stadium of Light.
