Emelec continue to lead the way in Ecuador’s Primera A after their 2-1 home win over Macara on Sunday.
Emelec led 2-0 after 18 minutes at the Estadio George Capwell, thanks to early strikes from Marcos Mondaini and Denis Stracqualursi, and although Sergio Mina pulled one back late for the visitors, they could not find a leveller.
Emelec lead the Primera A standings by two points from the only side to beat them this season, Deportivo Quito, who moved into second place after their 2-0 victory over Universidad Catolica.
Federico Nieto and Luis Congo scored the goals for Deportivo, leapfrogging them above Catolica by a solitary point.
Manta are in fourth spot following their 1-0 win over El Nacional, with a Dennys Quinonez own goal proving decisive, while Independiente needed a late strike from Armando Solis to seal a 2-1 win against Deportivo Cuenca.
LDU Loja and LDU Quito played out a 1-1 draw, and Deportivo Quevedo’s home clash with Barcelona finished goalless.
