Flores in doubt for Southampton clash

Swansea boss Michael Laudrup has revealed defender Chico Flores is unlikely to play this weekend when his side play Southampton.

The Spaniard suffered a dead leg in the League Cup win over Liverpool last week and missed the 1-1 draw against Chelsea last Saturday at the Liberty Stadium.

Garry Monk is on stand-by once again to fill in at St Mary’s Stadium for the 25-year-old, after replacing him for the game against the Blues.

“Chico is very doubtful, he is still in lot of pain. I knew when it happened against Liverpool it was very serious,” Laudrup said.

“Normally when you have a dead leg, you get up and play on but then it is sore for three or four days.

“So when Chico had to come off, I knew he was hurt, he wants to play every minute of every game. It was looking like eight or 10 days out so he is very doubtful for this weekend.

“There is no point risking him for one game if he is not right, because we have lots of games coming up over the next few months.”

Laudrup has warned his side not to be complacent when they take on Southampton on Saturday and believes his players find better performances when playing against the bigger sides in the division.

“My players always have their feet on the ground but when you play the big clubs it is easier to perform. It’s my job to get the players to maintain the focus,” he said.
