Gabi praises influential Falcao

Atletico Madrid captain Gabi saluted the efforts of Radamel Falcao in the European Super Cup 4-1 win over Chelsea on Friday night.

The midfield hardman sent the Colombian on the way to his first-half treble against Roberto Di Matteo’s men.

“We knew we had a great group who could count on the services of a great player capable of making a difference, and tonight, he did it again,” he said.

Gabi went on to issue a call for his team-mates to build upon their European success, encouraging them to recognise their true worth as the season progressed.

“The team put in a tremendous effort against a huge rival (Chelsea),” he said.

“We deserved our victory, and have come full circle with it.

“With each game, this team has to do its utmost to be amongst the best.”
