Heynckes content with point

Bayern Munich coach Jupp Heynckes has played down the significance of his team’s 1-1 draw with 10-man Nuremberg in the Bundesliga on Saturday.

Mario Mandzukic’s third-minute opener was cancelled out by Markus Feulner shortly after the restart.

Although Timo Gebhart received a red card for the hosts, the league leaders were unable to find a winner.

Despite the draw, Bayern extended their lead at the top to eight points after Bayer Leverkusen upset Schalke.

Heynckes said it was impossible to win every game and was willing to accept a point from the clash.

“It’s not the end of the world. It’s just not possible to win every game. We can live with the draw,” the coach told reporters.

“After taking an early lead, we failed to make it two or even three. Obviously, we conceded the equaliser at a bad moment psychologically.”

Bayern goalkeeper Manuel Neuer rued his team’s inability to find a second goal, which he believes might have been enough to secure three points.

“We were the better team in the first 20 minutes. Nuremberg didn’t put any pressure on us and it was easy for us to keep the ball,” he said.

“That changed and we had counter-attacks but just could not score a second goal.”

Neuer’s thoughts were echoed by attacker Toni Kroos, who lamented the chances wasted by his team.

“I think we’ve all seen that we had to win this game in the first half. We scored a goal and had several opportunities to score again,” he said.

“Nuremberg didn’t have one chance in the first half. The 1-0 lead wasn’t enough.”
