Hoy not Foy, cyclist not referee

Olympic gold-medal winning cyclist Sir Chris Hoy has taken to Twitter after receiving abuse from Tottenham fans.

Angry Spurs supporters mistakenly singled out Hoy following their 2-1 defeat to Stoke on Sunday, instead of referee Chris Foy.

The Premier League official made a number of questionable decisions during the defeat, with Emmanuel Adebayor’s second-half goal wrongly ruled out for offside, while the north Londoners had multiple penalty appeals turned down.

Harry Redknapp declared after the game that Foy was ‘enjoying not giving us the decisions’, and his view was backed by many Spurs fans who accidentally sent abusive messages to the cyclist.

“Just for the record 1) I don’t need glasses and 2) I do not lead a double life as an English premier league ref. That’s Chris Foy,” Hoy tweeted.

“Still getting some rather amusing grief from Spurs fans!” Hoy said.

“On the plus side I’ve learned some new 4 letter words today. #FoyNotHoy.”

The 49-year-old official will take charge of Fulham’s home game with Bolton on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Hoy, will be hoping to put any further confusion between himself and the referee beyond doubt when he attempts to add to his tally of four Olympic gold medals at the London Olympics.
