Inter not giving up on Sanchez; Wenger hints at January signings

Inter not giving up on Sanchez

Inter are readying bid for Udinese forward Alexis Sanchez, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.

The Chilean is keen on joining Inter even though Udinese would like to wait until the summer before selling their most prized asset.

Inter technical director Marco Branca has been given permission to launch a bid for Sanchez by Massimo Moratti after the Neroazzurri had one offer turned down by Udinese.

The Serie A champions had initially offered €18 million plus Jonathan Biabiany, but Udinese were holding out for €25 million.

Nonetheless, Branca is prepared to offer €20 million plus Joel Obi instead of Biabiany and he is hoping that would be enough to close to deal.

The 22-year-old Sanchez has already proved his worth at both club and international level and there is no doubt Inter would get a great player.

Wenger hints at January signings

Arsene Wenger has admitted he may have to buy a new defender after Sebastien Squillaci picked up a hamstring injury.

With Thomas Vermaelen still lacking match fitness, Wenger admits the team need cover for Laurent Koscielny and Johan Djourou.

“If we only have two centre-backs then that cannot work with the number of centre-backs we have,” said Wenger.

“If Squillaci has a problem then we must quickly go out for a player.”

The French manager added that he had every confidence in Andrei Arshavin after the Russian was booed by the fans during the Leeds game.

“The fans were frustrated. That comes from when you don’t win. The fans are demanding.

“We were not consistent technically and so they picked on our inconsistencies. It is not through a lack of desire with Arshavin. He wants to do well.

“I have no worries that Arshavin will come back into the team, but their confidence does suffer a little bit from that.”

Kuszczak: I can be Manchester United number one

Tomasz Kuszczak believes he can take over from Edwin van der Sar as the club’s number one despite speculations that Sir Alex Ferguson is looking for a new keeper.

The Polish keeper says he is eager to show he is good enough to be United’s number one.

“Every game is massive for me,” said Kuszczak.

“I want to show that I can take over from Edwin. For us young players, we have to be ready. When we play, we must play very well.”

Sir Alex Ferguson is reportedly looking for a new keeper, but Kuszczak is adamant he can replace Edwin van der Sar.

“There has been all this speculation about my future but I am hopeful I can play more.

“There has always been competition for this club and there always will be. This is how football works.

“I intend to do well all the time when I get a chance to play. That is what would give me a future at United.”

Even though the Pole did very well whenever he was called into action this season, it is highly unlikely Sir Alex Ferguson will trust him with the heavy task of replacing the Dutch veteran.
