Andree Jeglertz admits he has been surprised by the dominant nature of Manchester City’s Women’s Super League campaign, ahead of Sunday’s pivotal trip to Arsenal.

Jeglertz’s first season in charge of City has been a roaring success, with his team firmly on course to end Chelsea’s six-year stranglehold on the title after routing the Blues 5-1 last week.

They are 11 points clear at the summit ahead of this weekend’s fixtures, while fourth-placed Arsenal are 13 points adrift of top spot with a game in hand.

The Opta supercomputer currently assigns City a 97.5% chance of winning the title, with Arsenal lifting the trophy in just 1.4% of season simulations. Chelsea’s hopes stand at 0.8%, with Manchester United’s chances at 0.3%.

And Jeglertz has been taken aback by the flying start to his reign, saying: “With the quality we have in each player, if they can work together as a group, the results can be fantastic.

“Of course, I didn’t expect that we should be in this situation after six or seven months.

“But you go in, and in every game that I have played, or that we have played since I started coaching, we try to win and have a strong belief that we can.”

City lead all teams in this season’s WSL for shots (272), shots on target (105), goals (41), shot conversion rate (15.1%), expected goals (39.4 xG) and big chances (70).

The Citizens are averaging five big chances per game in 2025-26, a figure only bettered in a single WSL campaign by Chelsea in the 2017 Spring Series (5.8).

Given Arsenal’s game in hand will be against lowly Leicester City, Arsenal know a victory in Sunday’s match would give them an opportunity to move within seven points of the leaders.

But for now, Renee Slegers is only focused on the upcoming game, saying: “We have the Leicester fixture that will be played later.

“What it is about for us at this moment in time is this game, and what we can do in this game, that is the most important thing.

“Then we’ll see at the end what it means for the table. All we know is that in this game, we want to get the three points, and the league is really tight this year again.

“Of course, City have done really well with only one loss so far, so they’ve been amazing in what they’ve been achieving every single week, but yeah, we’ll go for the win.”
