Kean calls for Rover courage

Blackburn boss Steve Kean has called on his players to show courage ahead of their crucial Premier League clash with Bolton on Tuesday.

A last-gasp Peter Odemwingie goal at Ewood Park on Saturday condemned Rovers to a fifth defeat in eight matches, and increased the already-substantial pressure on the 44-year-old manager.

Kean, however, has backed his players to turn around the club’s fortunes, calling on them to be courageous in their efforts on the pitch.

He told the club’s official website: “None of us like where we are right now, fans, players, management, owners – everyone connected with the club.”

“The only way we can change our position in the table is out on the pitch and tonight is another opportunity for us.”

Rovers’ poor recent form has coincided with a string of injury problems, leaving Kean with a threadbare squad to choose from as they enter a pivotal stage of the season.

But the Scot, who celebrated a year at the club last weekend, believes his side can grab the all-important three points if the players impose themselves on the opposition.

“We have injury problems, they are well documented, and we will have players playing in unfamiliar roles, but we have got to see past all of that and get out there and show courage,” he said.

“We know it will be a pressure cooker situation, but we have got to use that pressure to our advantage.”

“We will try to get on the front foot and impose ourselves on Bolton. The players here are strong-minded and they accept the importance of getting a win tonight.”
