Keane linked with Wolves vacancy

Roy Keane is reportedly a candidate for the vacant manager’s job at Wolves after last week’s dismissal of Mick McCarthy.

Steve Bruce, sacked by Sunderland in December, remains the clear favourite for the position according to a report in The Mail, although his reluctance to take the role on a short-term basis is seen as a stumbling block to any deal.

Wolves chief executive Jez Moxey has previously spoken about the recruitment process, revealing that the first round of interviews had been completed.

“What I can say is that I think we are about halfway through the process and it is going well,” Moxey said.

“We have seen some very good candidates and have got some more candidates to see and we’ve got second interviews.”

“So far I think we are just about on schedule to keep to what we said which was, if at all possible, that we’d like a new manager in before our away game to Newcastle United.”

“We can’t be absolutely sure that will be the time frame but ideally that is what we want to do.”

“This job requires a certain type of manager and someone who is going to give us complete commitment and enthusiasm. We would only ever appoint somebody who clearly demonstrated to us that they really want the job.”

Former Charlton manager Alan Curbishley also reportedly met Moxey along with owner Steve Morgan on Friday.

Of the other candidates, Neil Warnock is out of the frame having become manager at Leeds, while it is believed former Huddersfield manager Lee Clark was deemed to have insufficient experience for the position.

Keane, who enjoyed a glowing playing career at Premier League giants Manchester United, has managerial experience with Sunderland and Ipswich Town.
