Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert has been impressed with the mentality Nicklas Helenius has displayed since joining the club.

Helenius moved to Villa from Danish side AaB in June and has already caught the eye in pre-season, scoring two goals.

The Denmark international has adapted quickly to life at Villa Park and Lambert has hailed the 22-year-old’s intelligence on the field.

“Nicklas is a young lad from another country, so he’s settling in,” Lambert told the club’s official website.

“But he’s a clever player. Some of his touches have been excellent and his awareness is very good.”

Belgian striker Christian Benteke will be expected to remain as the focal point of Villa’s attack this season, but Lambert is happy with the alternative that Helenius provides.

“He’s a different type than Christian, totally different. But I’m pleased with him,” he added.

“We’ve given him an opportunity to give it a go. He’s part of a good side with good guys in the dressing room.

“He’s got good character and good mentality himself. I’m pretty sure he knows the size of this club and the magnitude of it and I’m pretty sure he’ll fit in great.”
