Liverpool enter race for Llorente

Liverpool are keen to sign Athletic Bilbao striker Fernando Llorente before the transfer window closes, but only if they manage to sell Andy Carroll – according to The Sun.

The Spanish international looks almost certain to leave the Basque Country club as he has been forced to train with the reserves and has not featured in either of the Bilbao’s La Liga matches so far this season.

Manchester City, Juventus and Tottenham have all been linked with the 27-year-old and Liverpool look set to join the race to secure his services.

He has a £30 million release clause in his contract and it is thought that Bilbao will not let him leave for anything less than this.

There is no doubting that Llorente is a top quality forward that would be a big addition to any club around Europe with his physical presence and goal-scoring ability.

The Spaniard seems keen on playing Champions League football, which could mean that both Liverpool and Tottenham will struggle to sign him.

However, if the Reds do manage to off-load Carroll, then could have the funds to go and buy Llorente and offer him a big contract.

This story looks set to go to the wire and is one to keep an eye on.
