Federico Chiesa probably hoped for more game time when he joined Liverpool from Juventus in the summer of 2024; this season, the 28-year-old winger has made a total of 20 appearances in all competitions, scoring two goals and providing three assists; but only one of those 20 appearances was a start in a Premier League match.
The reluctance of head coach Arne Slot to put more faith in the Italy international has sparked plenty of speculation about his future, and multiple sources report that Juventus and Napoli are both interested in bringing him back to his homeland in January.
However, the reigning Premier League champions have not had any formal contact from either of the two Serie A sides yet, and according to Sky Sports, they aren’t likely to allow Chiesa to leave even if contact is made this month.
Liverpool are currently dealing with various problems in their attacking department. Alexander Isak is out with a broken leg, Cody Gakpo has just returned from injury, while neither Hugo Ekitike nor Florian Wirtz are fully fit. On top of that, Mohamed Salah is away at AFCON, and the club gave up on their interest in signing Antoine Semenyo, who is now on the verge of completing a transfer from Bournemouth to Manchester City.
Therefore, allowing a versatile attacker like Chiesa to leave obviously wouldn’t make much sense from Liverpool’s point of view.
