Mainz defender Bo Svensson could miss the rest of the season after suffering a serious knee injury.
The Dane faces months on the sidelines after injuring himself in Mainz’s 1-0 defeat at the hands of Borussia Moenchengladbach, where he was carried off on a stretcher following a tussle with Mike Hanke.
The club later confirmed on their official website that an MRI scan showed the 32-year-old had suffered damage to the posterior cruciate ligament in his left knee, although they refused to state whether he would undergo surgery.
Svensson is expected to be out for several months as he recovers, and at this point his participation in the 2012 European Championships is in serious doubt.
