Makoun, Angbwa in Cameroon quit threat

Jean II Makoun and Benoit Angbwa have threatened to quit the Cameroon national team if sacked captain Samuel Eto’o is not reinstated.

Eto’o is currently facing a 15-match suspension following a friendly match boycott against Algeria last month.

The two players say they intend to take the action in solidarity with Eto’o and the team’s vice-captain Enoh Eyong, as the November 15 strike was a collective revolt.

“The decision not to travel to Algiers for the friendly had been taken by all the players and not by Samuel Eto’o and Enoh Eyong alone,” a statement from both players’ lawyer read.

“We hereby express our solidarity with our team-mates who are our spokespersons and we formally challenge the sanctions imposed on them.”

“Also, we will not honour any call up to the national team until the unjustified and unfair sanctions have been removed.”

Eto’o and Eyong did not appeal suspension handed down by the Cameroon FA’s disciplinary committee.
