According to Sky Sports, Manchester United are very reluctant to sell Kobbie Mainoo, with manager Ruben Amorim still believing the 20-year-old midfielder has an important role to play in the club’s future. They would only consider “exceptional” offers for his services.
Mainoo’s potential exit from United has been a topic often spoken about in the media over the last couple of months. He is yet to start a Premier League match this season, and has only appeared for more than 30 minutes once, back in August against Burnley. The only game he did start was the shocking Carabao Cup defeat to Grimsby Town. Amorim recently explained this by pointing out his view that Mainoo competes with captain Bruno Fernandes for a place in the starting XI.
The current situation the young midfielder faces is a stark contrast to what was before, when he was a regular starter under Erik ten Hag and even had a regular place in the England squad – a particularly important point in the season leading up to a World Cup.
There is plenty of interest for Mainoo, both in the Premier League and in other top divisions, but it is believed that few potential suitors would be able to afford a price at which United would accept his departure.
