Odds: 4/9 @ Coral

Manchester United host in-form Championship side Middlesbrough in the Capital One Cup fourth round on Wednesday night, with a place in the quarter-finals at stake. The Red Devils are favourites to come out on top against their North-East opposition with their home form being formidable this season, but Middlesbrough are no slouches. The visitors are enjoying a impressive start in the second tier, and have already navigated their way through three cup clashes to make it this far.

United have won three and drawn two of their five home games in the Premier League, and comfortably dispatched of their last Championship opponent in the League Cup with a 3-0 beating of Ipswich Town. They boast a 100% home record in the Champions League, and are expected to name a strong team to face Boro this week. As for Middlesbrough, Aitor Karanka’s side have been taking the competition very seriously this season, dispatching of Oldham Athletic, Burton Albion and Wolverhampton Wanderers so far.

A recent mini-slump in the championship sees Middlesbrough as underdogs on Wednesday, with dropped points suffered in three of their last four outings. The visitors’ away form has been inconsistent, with defeats at Reading and Cardiff preceding a win against Wolves in the league, while following wins against Sheffield Wednesday and Nottingham Forest.

Nevertheless, Manchester United should make the gulf in class count at Old Trafford to go some way to rectifying last season’s failure in the competition with the likes of an in-form Anthony Martial spearheading the attack.
