Mancini wants more recruits

Roberto Mancini has urged Manchester City to step up their attempts in bringing new players to the club this week.

The transfer window slams shut on Friday, with the Premier League champions having only supplemented their star-studded squad with Jack Rodwell from Everton, thus far.

City are expected to add Swansea winger Scott Sinclair to their ranks in a 6.2 million pounds deal from Swansea and, after seeing his side concede more goals in Sunday’s 2-2 draw with Liverpool, Mancini agrees it is time to press forward in the transfer market.

“We need to bring players in and we have five days in which to do it,” Mancini told The Independent.

“We have to work hard for these four or five days. It will be a very long week for us.

“We have our targets and we must go for them,” the Italian said.

In the wake of the draw at Anfield, Mancini rued both his side’s failure to capitalise on possession and the decision to give a free kick for a Rodwell handball, which led to Luis Suarez putting the home side in front, likening it to a penalty that cost City a place in the League Cup final last season.

“It was not a penalty then and it was not a free kick now,” he added.

“We played very well in the first 30 minutes and you should score in these moments, if you want to win a game at Liverpool.”
