Martinez: Poor home record is costly

Manager Roberto Martinez admits Wigan’s record of only one home league win this season is not good enough.

Wigan’s last home victory came way back in August when they beat QPR 2-0 and it is that poor record in front of their own fans which has contributed to them being bottom of the table.

The Spaniard has pointed to previous inspirational home performances in past seasons to show an improvement in form in front of their own fans is possible.

“We want to go all season having a better return at home,” Martinez told reporters.

“One win at home is not going to be enough and we want to change that.”

“We had big, big afternoons at the DW Stadium over the seasons.”

“In the last campaign there were many twists and turns in the last 10 games and in this league you expect that.”

“In this league if you’re starting to develop a weakness it can really punish you. In the position we’re in we can’t look anywhere else other than us.”

“If you’re fourth bottom you can look around and hope you’re not going to get dragged in.”

“Where we are, the position is clear that we’re going to have to improve and get better and make sure we get enough wins in the next 10.”

“We can’t rely on anyone else because our position doesn’t allow us to do that.”

“That’s why it’s going to be crucial at home this season and to be ready and help the players to be themselves and achieve what we deserve to achieve.”
