Pablo Mastroeni hailed the character of Real Salt Lake as they fought back to earn a 2-2 draw with San Diego FC in MLS.
San Diego had been looking for a win to send them top of the Western Conference, but substitute Victor Olatunji’s 85th-minute strike denied them all three points.
RSL had already seen their lead slip, having gone in front through Sergi Solans in the 17th minute, but Marcus Ingvartsen and Anders Dreyer scored on either side of half-time to put San Diego in front.
But the points were eventually shared, even after Christopher McVey saw red for the hosts after receiving two bookings.
RSL were deserving of their point, though, after accumulating 3.0 expected goals (xG) from their 21 shots, of which eight were on target, while San Diego created 1.8 xG from 15 attempts (six on target).
And Mastroeni was full of praise for how the team kept their composure until the very end to earn the point.

“It just shows the character of this group,” Mastroeni said.
“Even when we go down, there’s no panic — the belief stays the same.
“Guys coming off the bench are ready to make an impact.”
Elsewhere in the Western Conference, the LA Galaxy were held to a 1-1 draw by Portland Timbers, despite Phil Neville’s side going down to 10 men in the 19th minute after Kamal Miller’s sending off.
And Minnesota United and the Seattle Sounders played out a 0-0 draw.
