David Raya first joined Arsenal in the summer of 2023 and replaced Aaron Ramsdale as the Gunners’ first-choice goalkeeper straight away. Manager Mikel Arteta was criticized for that decision at the time and he was ready for it, but he claims the public reaction had nothing to do with Ramsdale’s quality.
It was rather the fact that he had got rid of an England international, and he doesn’t believe the reaction would’ve been the same if it was about a player from another country.
