Arsenal target Alvaro Morata is staying at Real Madrid in January, according to coach Carlo Ancelotti.

The striker came on for 10 minutes as Real claimed a 2-0 win over Osasuna in the Copa del Rey on Thursday.

Morata is believed to be high on Arsene Wenger’s wish list in January after Theo Walcott’s serious knee injury.

Ancelotti has different ideas and said the 21-year-old had never asked to leave the La Liga giants.

“We have not changed our idea at all,” Ancelotti said.

“Morata stays here and he has not told us that he wants to leave.”

A lifelong Real fan, Morata has hinted he would like a loan move, wanting a more regular role should it arise.

“It’s important to have a proper role in the team,” he said.

“I’ve been at Real Madrid my whole life and I’ve been a Real Madrid fan since I was a boy. I will be all my life but it’s important to have an important role.

“If the moment comes that I don’t, I will look at other options. Staying at Real Madrid is complicated.

“Playing five or 10 minutes is OK if you accept it. You have the chance to get on the pitch and try to change a game in a short space of time. Every minute in football is gold.”
