(GSM) – Werder Bremen midfielder Mesut Özil has pledged his future to the German club, putting an end to speculation linking him with a move to the Premier League.

The Germany midfielder, who starred at the World Cup, is in his final contract year at Bremen and negotiations over an extension have stalled.

Manchester United, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur were reportedly interested in signing Özil

Meanwhile, reported interest in the player also came from Primera Divison giants Real Madrid.

However, the 21-year-old insists he wants to see out his contract at Bremen before deciding whether to stay at the club or seal a free-transfer switch to another club.

He told Bild newspaper: “The situation is clear for the next 12 months; I still have a contract with Bremen. What will happen after that, I can’t tell at the moment.

“I am a friend of honesty. I have never extended a contract and then left a club. I have never done that. I have always happily respected my contract.

“I the last two-and-a-half years, I have never said I want to leave. I had an offer last year, but I concentrated on Werder.

“In your career as a professional footballer you earn enough money, so what counts for me is the sporting perspective.”
