West Bromwich Albion saw off the visit of Sunderland with a comprehensive 4-0 victory in the English Premier League on Saturday.

Nigeria striker Peter Odemwingie netted twice for hosts West Brom at the start of each half, with the influential James Morrison also on target in the 40th minute at The Hawthorns.

The victory was sealed in injury time when Keith Andrews, a January signing from Blackburn, fired into the top corner to cap off an ideal home debut.

The home side had clearly been sent out with instructions to attack their visitors and within three minutes they were rewarded, when Odemwingie opened the scoring with a close-range header.

It took until the 31st minute for the next clear-cut chance to arrive, and it fell the visitors’ way.

Phil Bardsley’s cross from the right wing nearly found James McClean inside the penalty area, but the ball was just out of the youngsters’ reach.

West Brom then went close through a Jonas Olsson header and James Morrison’s shot, which came as a result of some good work from the Scotland midfielder.

With five minutes of the first half remaining the lively Morrison doubled his team’s lead following some poor defending from Sunderland.

Jerome Thomas was able to find space down the left wing, and he delivered a dangerous cross to the back post.

Morrison arrived ahead of McClean to head into the back of the net for 2-0.

Just three minutes into the second half and the match was effectively over as a contest, after Odemwingie grabbed his second and West Brom’s third goal following an excellent counter attack.

An attempted one-two between Morrison and Marc-Antoine Fortune missed its intended recipient, but fell perfectly for Odemwingie, who fired home from the edge of the penalty area.

With 10 minutes remaining Sunderland striker Fraizer Campbell had a goal chalked out for offside, and replays appeared to endorse the assistant referee’s decision.

West Brom then completed the rout in injury time, as the impressive Andrews fired a shot into the top corner from inside the area.
