QPR seal Fer capture

QPR have confirmed the signing of Netherlands international Leroy Fer from Norwich City on a three-year deal for an undisclosed fee.

Fer featured at the recent World Cup in Brazil, scoring in a 2-0 win over Chile in Netherlands’ final Group B clash.

The 24-year-old midfielder joined Norwich from Twente ahead of the 2013-14 campaign, but failed to help keep the club in the Premier League as the Carrow Road outfit finished 18th, three points adrift of safety.

Fer featured as a substitute in Norwich’s 3-0 win over Watford in the Championship on Saturday before completing his move to Loftus Road on Wednesday.

“I can’t wait to get started here,” Fer said. “It was always my dream to stay in England, in the Premier League.

“QPR did well last season to come up and the squad is full of top players, so I’m delighted to be here.

“Harry [Redknapp, QPR manager] told me I was a big target for him and when you hear that from a coach, you want to work with them and play for them.

“I’m just looking forward to showing what I’m capable of here at QPR.”

Redknapp himself, meanwhile, believes the signing of Fer will aid QPR in their bid to stave off relegation, having bounced back from the drop in 2012-13 by winning the Championship play-off final in May.

“Leroy’s arrival is a massive boost for us,” he said. “He’s another excellent signing and I’m delighted we’ve been able to get him to QPR.

“He played for Holland in the World Cup this summer and has all the attributes you’d be looking for from a central midfielder.

“He’s just an outstanding midfield player – great physique, fine ability, he gets box-to-box. I’m really looking forward to integrating him into the squad.”
