According to reports in Spain, Xabi Alonso is fighting to save his job as the Real Madrid head coach and could be relieved of duty if his team loses to Manchester City in the Champions League on Wednesday.
Prior to his move from Bayer Leverkusen to Real and Liverpool’s appointment of Arne Slot, Alonso was strongly linked with the Anfield job, and the speculation has resurfaced as Slot also faces the prospect of the sack should the Merseysiders’ poor run of form continue for much longer.
Asked about the situation ahead of the City game, Alonso said his place was at Real Madrid at the moment, but he wouldn’t rule out the possibility of coaching Liverpool in the future.
