Real Madrid see Valverde as future captain as Manchester United express interest

According to Goal.com, Manchester United are very much interested in signing Federico Valverde from Real Madrid, and to that end, they’re willing to offer the services of Kobbie Mainoo to the Spanish giants.

But Real, who have indeed been keeping an eye on Mainoo as they form their plans to rebuild their midfield section after the departures of Toni Kroos and Luka Modric, have no intention of selling Valverde in the foreseeable future. In fact, they believe that the Uruguay international has what it takes to wear the captain’s armband at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Both United and Real have focused their transfer activities recently towards strengthening the attacking and the defending sections of the squad, arguably neglecting the midfield. Both are, of course, aware that the issue needs addressing in the coming windows.

Valverde joined Real Madrid’s Castilla side in 2016, at the age of 18. Having spent the following two seasons on loan with Deportivo La Coruna, he returned to take up a place in Real’s senior squad and has been a key player for Los Blancos since.
